Your nurse advocate will safely guide you through uncharted territories by:
Like most people you would do anything to protect your loved ones. We don’t yet know what your situation is, but we know it is causing you stress. We get it and have been where you are. Frustrated, overwhelmed, confused, and just plain angry at how fragmented modern healthcare has become. That is why we became professional advocates years ago, so we could help more struggling people like you, guiding you to quick solutions that would take you much longer to figure out, with more time, money and frustration along the way.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO STRUGGLE ALONE ANY LONGER.
As so many of our clients have told us, having us on your side is like “having a nurse in the family!”

Why we are different
Our board certified RN patient advocates are not your average nurse. No one advocates for patients better than nurses do. You will have our decades of experience in complex care management, ICU nursing, behavioral health management, dementia care and crisis management on your side. We love and care for your family like they were our own and grieve with them when they experience loss. We even have a pharmacist on our team to further ensure medication safety as polypharmacy of the elderly kills tens of thousands of people every year. We are “street smart” about modern healthcare and are experts at protecting patient rights and have even successfully won cases that went to ethics committee hearings. We are professionals and treat all doctors and hospitals with respect. Most doctors today are thrilled to have a patient with a professional advocate on board; they know we will be assessing their health status at a higher level than most families are able to do, and we save them time by talking in “medicalese”, which is like shorthand for healthcare providers. We are not adversaries, but rather trusted partners who safeguard their most complex patients.
The cost of services
By now, you are probably wondering if insurance pays for our services and exactly how expensive we are. Today, that is a valid concern as health expenses cannot be divorced from people’s financial capacity. If concern over limited resources is one of your big worries, you may want to hire our nonprofit sister organization Seniorsalone.org which offers a sliding scale fee for service model so we may reach more people who need our help. NShore Patient Advocates typically charges between $1500-$2500 for the initial month of services, depending upon the complexity of the case. We bring the same skill level, staff and expertise to your case, no matter what your ability to pay, so please be open with us about any constraints you may have when you schedule your initial 30 minute no cost consultation. We hate to see anyone fall through the cracks due to limited income, but our nurses are paid well and at this time we do not have funding for additional pro bono work. We do not accept insurance, with rare exceptions due to our commitment to patient allegiance. We never want to have insurance companies dictate how much care we will provide; we are allegiant to the patient alone!
I’m afraid my mom will feel abandoned if you manage her care
We understand how hard it can be for families to let go or invite someone in to help. After all, you have always been there for her and have championed her causes all along! We get that and totally agree! You are the hero, we are simply the guide! Actually, most of the time we hear that people feel like a VIP when they have their own private nurse! Sometimes families don’t know what they don’t know and that can sometimes be dangerous and scary when things start to go wrong. And let’s face it, you are likely experiencing some degree of stress by now and can’t keep this up forever on your own. We provide reliable information, resources and guidance that have proved effective over the past ten years and you make the choice always. Our hope is to always to keep people in their own homes as long as is safe and financially reasonable to do so. When you no longer need our services, we are happy to say goodbye or see-you-later; most of the time that means we did our job and it is time to move on! You are always in charge of how long you keep us as we work at your direction and pleasure and you can let us go at any time.
What is a medical profile and care plan and why is it necessary?
Most medical error today is caused by miscommunication. Doctors don’t always have time to read volumes of electronic health records, and most have some inaccuracies in them. Patients today may have doctors at different hospitals and different systems do not always talk to each other. Errors in lists of medications, allergies, diagnoses and histories often happen because people and computers are fallible and make mistakes. When we present to the ED with a client and have a reliable 2 page history and med list written in medical language, the providers can make an accurate diagnosis and treat them quickly. Care providers tell us often how enormously helpful our profiles are. It is, after all everyone’s responsibility to do all we can to prevent medical error and this is one of our best tools to do that for those we serve.
You mention being alone and I am completely alone with no family at all. Can you serve as my POA for Health?
Absolutely, but we don’t just sign our name on a blank legal form. We engage, get to know you well and develop a plan with you first to make sure you are legally, financially, and medically protected and we know your wishes and preferences. After that, we may stay in the background and check in with you every couple of months to make sure you are doing well. Our annual fee for serving as your POAH is $500.00 and ongoing services are billed separately when needed. You can request help from us any time you experience a hiccup or calamity. We are there for you (and your family) when you need us!
