When faced with mounting health issues during my husband’s hospitalization, I realized that I needed help navigating his course of care. I reached out to North Shore Patient Advocates for assistance. They assigned Anum Mansoor to be my advocate. As far as I am concerned thy sent me an Angel. Aside from being extremely knowledgeable with regards to medical terminology and hospital practices, she had a very calming and supportive demeanor. She would break down everything the doctors would relay in a way I could fully understand before making a decision. She was very forthright with me when she needed to be and very compassionate and empathetic as she helped me to work through the day-to-day changes in my husband’s health. Her professional command of the field of medicine was appreciated by all the doctors and the nurses that worked on my husband’s case. I recommend Anum Mansoor without reservation.
I want to thank you and Pam for everything you did to help bring our mom back to Chicago from Florida, where she was getting poor care at an assisted living facility. We’ve wanted to do this for quite awhile but had no idea where to begin. Thanks to you, our beloved mom is close to us in memory care, where she has quickly become a staff favorite. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so very much. You are both incredible people! Knowing that you both were there to pick her up and bring her home gave us such peace of mind. I will tell everyone I know about the wonderful services that you offer!
We cannot thank you enough for guiding us through the most frightening time of our lives. When our mom started having behavior problems at home due to her dementia, we were all stressed out and overwhelmed, we didn’t know which way to go and realized there was little money to pay for both our parents’ care needs. After using up all of our vacation time, my sister and I were at wit’s end and worried about our dad’s health as well, as his blood pressure was out of control, and he was crying all the time watching mom fall apart. We never could have done this without you! I am so grateful that Mike told us about you as knew just what to do and saved us a ton of money. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts; they are both now safe and being well cared for in a place that suits them perfectly!
Highly recommend NShore. The results and peace of mind they provide are worth every cent. Their expert quickly cut through the red tape and got responses from a confusing and disorganized health “care” system. This ensured my brother got the best treatment for his emergency surgery and cancer, and that the family got good explanations for our many questions so we could make good decisions with no lingering doubts. They are always quick to respond and so knowledgeable. My only regret is that we did not engage them sooner. Our nurse was terrific!

I believe my husband Ed would not be alive today if it wasn’t for your professional advocacy during a frightening six week hospitalization. It was scary time and you stood by us. We are forever grateful!
Thankfully, with your support and guidance my father got appropriate quality care. Having you behind the scenes gave my family tremendous peace of mind. To have your own patient advocate is to have your “ace in the hole”.
Teri’s clinical excellence is surpassed only by her compassion. She treats every patient as if they were a member of her family. Teri’s ability to advocate for patients is unparalleled.
It has been a blessing to have you in my life when I needed someone to help me find a good doctor. I have been very pleased with your knowledge, experience, patience and ability to help so quickly.

Why we are different
Our board certified RN patient advocates are not your average nurse. No one advocates for patients better than nurses do. You will have our decades of experience in complex care management, ICU nursing, behavioral health management, dementia care and crisis management on your side. We love and care for your family like they were our own and grieve with them when they experience loss. We even have a pharmacist on our team to further ensure medication safety as polypharmacy of the elderly kills tens of thousands of people every year. We are “street smart” about modern healthcare and are experts at protecting patient rights and have even successfully won cases that went to ethics committee hearings. We are professionals and treat all doctors and hospitals with respect. Most doctors today are thrilled to have a patient with a professional advocate on board; they know we will be assessing their health status at a higher level than most families are able to do, and we save them time by talking in “medicalese”, which is like shorthand for healthcare providers. We are not adversaries, but rather trusted partners who safeguard their most complex patients.
The cost of services
By now, you are probably wondering if insurance pays for our services and exactly how expensive we are. Today, that is a valid concern as health expenses cannot be divorced from people’s financial capacity. If concern over limited resources is one of your big worries, you may want to hire our nonprofit sister organization Seniorsalone.org which offers a sliding scale fee for service model so we may reach more people who need our help. NShore Patient Advocates typically charges between $1500-$2500 for the initial month of services, depending upon the complexity of the case. We bring the same skill level, staff and expertise to your case, no matter what your ability to pay, so please be open with us about any constraints you may have when you schedule your initial 30 minute no cost consultation. We hate to see anyone fall through the cracks due to limited income, but our nurses are paid well and at this time we do not have funding for additional pro bono work. We do not accept insurance, with rare exceptions due to our commitment to patient allegiance. We never want to have insurance companies dictate how much care we will provide; we are allegiant to the patient alone!
I’m afraid my mom will feel abandoned if you manage her care
We understand how hard it can be for families to let go or invite someone in to help. After all, you have always been there for her and have championed her causes all along! We get that and totally agree! You are the hero, we are simply the guide! Actually, most of the time we hear that people feel like a VIP when they have their own private nurse! Sometimes families don’t know what they don’t know and that can sometimes be dangerous and scary when things start to go wrong. And let’s face it, you are likely experiencing some degree of stress by now and can’t keep this up forever on your own. We provide reliable information, resources and guidance that have proved effective over the past ten years and you make the choice always. Our hope is to always to keep people in their own homes as long as is safe and financially reasonable to do so. When you no longer need our services, we are happy to say goodbye or see-you-later; most of the time that means we did our job and it is time to move on! You are always in charge of how long you keep us as we work at your direction and pleasure and you can let us go at any time.
What is a medical profile and care plan and why is it necessary?
Most medical error today is caused by miscommunication. Doctors don’t always have time to read volumes of electronic health records, and most have some inaccuracies in them. Patients today may have doctors at different hospitals and different systems do not always talk to each other. Errors in lists of medications, allergies, diagnoses and histories often happen because people and computers are fallible and make mistakes. When we present to the ED with a client and have a reliable 2 page history and med list written in medical language, the providers can make an accurate diagnosis and treat them quickly. Care providers tell us often how enormously helpful our profiles are. It is, after all everyone’s responsibility to do all we can to prevent medical error and this is one of our best tools to do that for those we serve.
You mention being alone and I am completely alone with no family at all. Can you serve as my POA for Health?
Absolutely, but we don’t just sign our name on a blank legal form. We engage, get to know you well and develop a plan with you first to make sure you are legally, financially, and medically protected and we know your wishes and preferences. After that, we may stay in the background and check in with you every couple of months to make sure you are doing well. Our annual fee for serving as your POAH is $500.00 and ongoing services are billed separately when needed. You can request help from us any time you experience a hiccup or calamity. We are there for you (and your family) when you need us!
